Secure Information Box FAQ’s
What is a secure information box?
A secure information box (previously known as premises information box) is a secure wall mounted box installed at a buildings entrance to store critical information for emergency services, such as fire safety details and site plans.
Who can access the secure information box?
Only the responsible persons (RP) and fire services have access to the information inside.
Where should a secure information box be installed?
It is usually installed near the main entrance or a designated emergency access point, making it easily accessible during an emergency.
What type of information is stored in the secure information box?
Documents like fire evacuation plans, building layouts, hazardous material locations, and emergency contact details are typically stored inside.
What materials are used for secure information boxes?
These boxes are made from durable, tamper-proof materials. Our SIB’s are made from 2mm and 4mm thick steel to protect the information from damage or unauthorized access.
Do secure information boxes meet security standards?
Our secure information boxes have been tested and certified to stringent security standards (STS205 Resistance Class BR2), to ensure they provide adequate protection and accessibility.
Can the contents of the box be updated easily?
Yes, the contents can be updated regularly to ensure emergency responders have the latest information about the building and its safety features.
What is the SIB key process
Working directly with the Fire Industry Association (FIA) we have developed a robust key strategy. The lock itself is highly specified and keys are held on a master log. Its content (the vital information needed to save lives) is for the purpose of the Emergency Services alone, but a unique key is held by the Responsible Person to enable updating of all administration and regular checks and audits. The Responsible Person must ensure the Fire Services are aware of the location of the SIB – to enable access, a master key is held by all Fire Brigades for all SIBs.
